Welcome
Welcome Families!
This our official PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) page for Hutchings Elementary. The purpose of PBIS is to foster an environment that encourages students to lead by example with specific goals and traits that are taught to the students each month. The goal of all elementary schools is to create and foster the academic and social-emotional growth of all students in order to prepare them for the world they are going to inherit.
At Hutchings, we are going to implement several different systems in order to recognize students and classes that show growth or display these traits throughout the day. Our first system is our Huskie Paw Ticket which can be given out by an adult in the building when they see a student using the skill or trait of the month. For example, this month (September) is teamwork and just today we had a ticket turned in because a student helped another student decode one of his sight words. Another student was able to help several new students get used to the building today and made sure that the students knew if they had any questions they could ask him. These students were not asked to do this and it was self-motived. The students were given a Huskie Ticket to turn in and at the end of each month, several names will be drawn for prizes.
Another system we have in place is that our specials team each month will bring grade levels together for a targeted lesson on the monthly trait. They will go over the topic with the students using age-appropriate lessons to help cement the trait of the month. I have the specials teachers on the lookout each month for a class that has grown the most in the area on which we are working.
In addition to the specials classroom, general education teachers K-5 have also incorporated these monthly skills into “Pack Goals” for each classroom. Teachers will speak about these skills with their students at our morning meetings which happen in every classroom K-5.
This is our first year with a school-wide PBIS system and there will be tweaks and changes as we go on, but the staff here is very excited and have been working diligently to get this program up and running.
